While we're all waiting on Mayor Oscar Goodman's presentation to NBA Commissioner David Stern in hopes of landing an NBA franchise for Las Vegas, my Wall Street sources confirm this morning that our city may become the new home of the National Hockey League's Pittsburgh Penguins. When the Penguins partner, the Isle of Capri gaming company, lost its bid for slot machine licenses in Pittsburgh, they decided not to accept the city's alternative plan for a new arena for the team.
As a result, this morning the owners of the Penguins have said they will explore the possible relocation to Las Vegas. The perfect home for the team would be the Orleans Arena which is currently home for the Las Vegas Wranglers, our ECHL team.
Wall Street bankers say that Kansas and Houston will also probably bid to relocate the Penguins, but Vegas is the number one choice!
In another gaming related development this morning reported from Wall Street, apparently Oscar winner Martin Scorsese will team with another Oscar winner, Mark Wahlberg on a new, high profile HBO series focusing on the evolution of Atlantic City as a one-time small oceanside resort town into a giant entertainment and gaming destination on the East Coast. Mark will be one of the guests this coming weekend at owner Bruton Smith's suite at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway NASCAR races and I'll ask him why he picked Atlantic City over our fair city!!
